Meet Matti Laine: Author, Screenwriter, and Creative Entrepreneur

Matti Laine is an author, screenwriter, and actor who has built a successful career across various forms of storytelling. He has adopted an entrepreneurial approach to creative work and manages his copyrights through Wave Rights And Productions Oy.

Laine’s versatile expertise spans from crime novels to international TV productions and theater. He is particularly known for his six-part Elias Vitikka crime novel series and the award-winning TV series Paradise (Paratiisi), where he served as head writer. In early spring 2025, Laine is writing the screenplay for the international crime series Hildur, based on Satu Rämö’s books, with filming taking place in Iceland. Additionally, his eleventh novel published in 2025, “Her Father’s Daughter” (Isänsä tytär), launches the new Kovaset book series focusing on international crime, which has already secured an option agreement for TV production. He has also written the popular musical theater production “Kirka – Wiping Away My Tears” (Kirka – Surun pyyhit silmistäni), which has played to full houses across Finland.

In Media Minds’ training sessions, Laine guides creative professionals and aspiring artists on the path to entrepreneurship. He shares his experiences on how artists can grow into entrepreneurs while maintaining their artistic vision. The training covers topics such as copyright management, network building, and brand development. Laine particularly emphasizes the importance of identifying one’s values and the ability to both give and receive feedback. “The key to both artistry and entrepreneurship is recognizing your strengths and core competencies, while also boldly exploring new, unknown territories,” Laine states.

“Matti speaks from writer to writer in a way that touches, excites, and inspires. His diverse background as a screenwriter and actor gives him a unique ability to articulate the creative processes of artists. Matti’s human-centered approach and ability to see the best in everyone makes him an exceptional coach. He helps creators rediscover that original spark that initially drew them to creative work while considering what kind of legacy they want to leave in the world,” says Media Minds’ Hanna.
